eBay fee calculator
For most categories, eBay takes 13.6% of the total sale (item price, shipping and sales tax) plus $0.40 per order. Enter your numbers below to see your fees, payout, profit and break-even price. US rates, checked against eBay on November 7, 2026.
How are eBay fees calculated?
Most sales on eBay.com pay two fees, both taken from your payout automatically:
- Final value fee: a percentage of the total amount of the sale. That's the item price plus the shipping and handling the buyer pays, plus sales tax.
- Per-order fee: $0.30 on orders of $10 or less, $0.40 on orders over $10.
So the formula is: (item price + shipping + sales tax) × fee rate + per-order fee. Ads and international sales add their own fees on top. For the full picture, including insertion fees and Store plans, read eBay fees explained.

Worked example
You sell an item for $50 and charge $8 shipping. The buyer pays 7% sales tax, so the total amount of the sale is $62.06.
| Final value fee: 13.6% of $62.06 | $8.44 |
| Per-order fee | $0.40 |
| Total eBay fees | $8.84 |
| Payout ($58.00 − $8.84) | $49.16 |
| Item cost and shipping label ($25 + $7) | −$32.00 |
| Profit | $17.16 |
With a Basic Store, the same sale costs $8.28 in fees. With a 5% Promoted Listings ad rate, fees rise to $11.94 and profit falls to $14.06. Small rates add up, which is why it's worth checking every product before you list it.
How to keep eBay fees down
- Compare a Store subscription with your volume. The lower rate only pays off once it covers the monthly Store cost.
- Set ad rates per product. A high ad rate on a low-margin item can wipe out the profit.
- Price shipping honestly. eBay charges its fee on shipping too, so padding shipping doesn't avoid fees.
- Protect your seller level. Below Standard sellers pay 6% more on every final value fee.
- Watch the per-order fee on cheap items. On a $10 order, $0.30 is 3% of the sale before any other fee.

Frequently asked questions
How much does eBay take from a sale?
For most categories, eBay takes a final value fee of 13.6% of the total amount of the sale, plus a per-order fee of $0.40 (or $0.30 on orders of $10 or less). On a $100 item with free shipping and no sales tax, that's $14.00.
Does eBay charge fees on shipping and sales tax?
Yes. The final value fee is calculated on the total amount of the sale, which includes the item price, the shipping and handling the buyer pays, and sales tax. The sales tax itself goes to the state, but eBay still charges its fee on it.
Is the eBay fee lower with a Store subscription?
For most categories, yes. With a Basic, Premium, Anchor or Enterprise Store the rate is 12.7% on the first $2,500 of each item instead of 13.6%. The Store has its own monthly cost, so it pays off once your sales are large enough.
Are Promoted Listings fees included in the final value fee?
No. Promoted Listings is a separate ad fee. With general campaigns you pay your chosen ad rate only when a promoted item sells, on top of the final value fee. Enter your ad rate in the calculator to include it.
What is the eBay international fee?
US sellers pay an extra 1.65% of the total sale when the buyer is outside the US and the order doesn't go through eBay International Shipping.
How accurate is this calculator?
It uses eBay's published US rates, checked on November 7, 2026. Some categories, such as trading cards, watches, jewelry and guitars, have their own rates, so check eBay's fee pages for those. Treat the result as an estimate.
